We chatted it up a bit with LA duo Arnold & Lane, who have made a lot of strides in 2018 on Audiophile XXL. We talk about the future of A&L among other topics.
How in the world did you first meet and decide to become a production duo?
Arnold: We both worked for a online vape store and connected through music. Also the fact that we both shared sobriety. The production duo came out of living together, and just one day kinda made the decision to start finally making music together.
Your new tune ‘Get Down’ on the new Doble XX Grande Vol. 8 compilation is pretty poppin’. What were your key elements in the track?
Lane: For get down, We wanted to have a dirtier angle. Shaped a nice synth lead in massive, used some modulation delay on some of the percussion elements which gives it some bounce. Then we recorded some vocals, threw some waves plug-ins on it to make me sound much bigger and cooler than I actually am..
Being a duo, the writing process has to be a little different than solo artists. Whats the hardest part about working as a duo?
Lane: What’s interesting is that I use logic and Arnie uses ableton. I think that is one of the hardest parts. But also creatively sometimes we have different views on how a track should sound.
Arnold: I agree about using the different DAWS is the hardest. And we definately have different opinions on how things should sound, butut luckily we some how always find a middle ground.
Since you guys are both native Californians, let’s do a few quick hits about that. Lakers or Clippers?
Beach or mountains?
Jerry Brown or Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Arnold: Arnold all the way. He’s got a great name.
Lane: Politics aside, OG Predator is tight.
You guys have a big 2019 coming up! What’s up next for you guys?
Arnold: So we got a big month ahead of us. In November we have our debut EP with Hood politics out on Nov 9th (These dudes are doing big things!!) and then on the 9th and 10th of November we are doing a EP release party with them in Long Beach and the next day in San Diego!
Lane: We are so excited for the next few months. Halloween we have an EP with my techno weighs a ton. Releases secured with Hood Politics, Brash Beats, Tons & Tons. Especially excited for our single, “Doing Your Best” which will be featured on Audiophile XXL’s Xmas comp!
